The distal transradial approach (dTRA) is a hot topic in interventional cardiology field in recent years. It offers extra advantages over conventional transradial approach (TRA) by preserving radial artery for future use, reducing the chance of radial artery occlusion as well as more convenient to both doctors and patients. Dramatic improvements in dTRA equipment and the availability of focused training opportunities now put this skill set within the reach of every progressive interventional operator.

The Indonesian Society of Interventional Cardiology in collaboration with Department Of Cardiology and Vascular Medicine Padjajaran University organized  the first distal transradial access course on August 3rd 2019 in Bandung-Indonesia. The course topic was “Translating Data and Technique into a successful distal transradial practice”. There were 24 interventional cardiologist participated this course. The invited faculty from Indonesia were  Dr Soenarya Soerianata  , Dr. Syarief Hidayat, Dr Nahar Taufiq and Dr A.Fauzi Yahya. The inviting guest lecture from Chonnam National University Hospital Gwanju-Korea  was Dr Yongcheol Kim.This course is designed to provide a comprehensive exposure to distal transradial interventional skills ranging from case selection and preparation to procedural logistics and equipment selection as well as significant focus on technical skills, troubleshooting and management of complications. Through a robust, carefully designed curriculum of didactics, taped cases and hands-on training of cadaver, mannequin, doppler guided access, and homeostasis stations, participants gained familiarity with most commonly encountered scenarios available in distal transradial intervention. Hopefully this training course could continue its existence to bolster interventional cardiologist giving the best practices in all area throughout Indonesia.
